Cesar Peixoto has ruled Raul Jimenez out of Wolves' Black Country derby with West Brom, and laughed off any talk of mind games.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, West Brom boss James Morrison raised the prospect of mind games after the Mexican limped off in the EFL Cup defeat at Everton in midweek.

"I hope he plays, but it is not possible," Peixoto said. "I don't lie, I don't do mind games. For sure, 100 per cent."

The setback hurts Wolves and the striker, who missed two Black Country derbies in 2021 following a serious head injury against Arsenal. Peixoto said Jimenez’s run-out at Everton was chiefly for fitness and that he had been set for 45 minutes.

He added that every player wants to feature in games like this and that Jimenez, with his history at the club, is desperate to play. Peixoto called him a key and experienced figure, with recovery now the focus.

After the match on Merseyside, Peixoto initially said Jimenez faced several weeks out, but in his pre-match briefing he reported the injury was not as bad as first feared. The head coach hopes the 35-year-old could be back after the upcoming international break, adding, "It is not with me, but I hope so. I don't want to say yes, because I don't know, but we will try."
