The Daily Mail reports that Wolves have revived interest in Kalvin Phillips and are exploring a January deal with Manchester City, with a little over one week remaining in the window. Any move could put the midfielder back at Elland Road in April in a relegation fight.

Phillips left Leeds for City in 2022 after two seasons back in the Premier League and a standout Euro 2020 with England. It has proved a difficult switch, producing just 32 appearances in four years under Pep Guardiola.

Over that period he has tried to reignite his career with loans to Ipswich Town and West Ham United. A switch to Molineux is the latest possibility.

The signing is also viewed as cover should rivals move for Wolves’ Brazilian midfielders Joao Gomes and Andre Trindade. The Midlands club are bottom of the table on eight points and must overturn a 14-point gap in the 16 matches remaining.

Wolves are due at Elland Road on 18 April, which could bring Phillips a warm reception at the club where he rose from academy to promotion winner. Daniel Farke’s Leeds have 25 points, sit 16th, and are eight points clear of 18th-placed West Ham.
