There’s not too long to wait now before Wolves kick off their 2026-27 campaign.

After returning to the Championship for the first time in eight years, the Black Country outfit will be hopeful of making a strong start in the second tier when they welcome the new campaign in by hosting Blackburn Rovers at Molineux.

Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto will be aiming to deliver immediate promotion back to the Premier League, and it will be intriguing to see how the 46-year-old will fare in his first English role, but he does come off the back of an impressive season at Gil Vicente, where he guided them to a sixth-place finish in the Portuguese top-flight.

So far, Wolves have brought three new players into the building, with experienced duo Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez linking up in the Black Country, while winger Rafiki Said has joined from Standard Liege, although he has since been ruled out of the start of the season with a knee issue.

As well as confirming the permanent signing of defender Ladislav Krejčí, further work will have to be done on the transfer front as Wolves look to be one of the dominant forces in this season’s Championship, with the club having up until the 1st September to get all of their business concluded.

With this in mind, FLW rounds-up the latest transfer talk surrounding Wolves.

Cesar Peixoto linked with Marvin Elimbi reunion

Before the summer transfer window closes, Cesar Peixoto could be reuniting with defender Marvin Elimbi, who the Portuguese boss worked with at previous club Gil Vicente.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, the 23-year-old French central defender is one of the players Peixoto wants to take with him to Molineux.

While there have been no negotiations as of yet, it has been claimed Elimbi has been placed on Wolves’ shortlist.

The defender is under contract with Gil Vicente until 2028 and is currently valued at around £3.5m.

Elimbi started all 28 league games last season under Peixoto, establishing himself as one of the foundations of Gil Vicente’s defence, and it seems that the Wolves boss is keen for that to continue in the Championship.

Wolves are in need of some added leadership and stability in their backline, with a balance of defensive robustness and free-flowing football in attack standing them in very good stead to gain immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

Wolves to rival West Ham for Real Betis midfielder Nelson Deossa

Wolves are looking to bolster their midfield options this summer too, and are expected to battle fellow Championship rivals West Ham for the addition of Real Betis midfielder Nelson Deossa.

The 26-year-old has spent the majority of his career playing in his native Colombia, as well as spending time in Argentina and Mexico with Estudiantes, Pachuca, and Monterrey, before his move to La Liga outfit Real Betis last summer.

The Colombian made 33 appearances across all competitions for Betis last season, but managed less than 800 minutes of league football under Manuel Pellegrini, so a swift move away from Spain could be on the cards.

According to Spanish outlet MundoBetis, scouts from both West Ham and Wolves watched Real Betis' game against Arsenal in a pre-season friendly in Dublin last Wednesday evening, with the Championship duo both eyeing up a move.

MundoBetis also reported that scouts from Ipswich Town and Leeds United were also in attendance at the Aviva Stadium, so there appears to be plenty of competition for his signature.

No moves have officially been made by either West Ham or Wolves, but with competition so rife, movement could occur in the coming days or weeks for the Colombian.

While Wolves have been rather slow to add new faces to the group this summer, boss Cesar Peixoto has reassured supporters that further work will be put into bolstering the squad.

As reported by the Express & Star, Peixoto admitted that delays on the transfer front have occurred due to many players’ participation in the World Cup, and that their activity should ramp up closer to the 1st September deadline.

Peixoto said: "There’s going to be changes, the market is delayed and we try to manage the situation.

"Some players will go out, some players will come. We're going to change a lot, but me, Matt and Nathan, we know what we are doing.

"We know what we need for the squad. Some things are going to happen; the market was delayed because of the World Cup. We know what we need, we know what we are doing, but the moment is the players I have to work with, and I'm happy with them.

"The team works well, works hard, and has a good team spirit also. I think it's important to look at these players and find the solutions we want to improve the team.

I’m not frustrated because I have to manage the situation. I'm happy with these players, I'm happy with the improvement of the team. But me, as a coach, I want to close the team as soon as possible.

"It's normal. All the coaches want to close the team on the first day, but it's not possible because of the market. But I believe in the people I work with, and I believe in what we are doing in the club and in the team.
