Wolves have shifted from flirting with an unwanted Premier League record to eyeing further low totals they could overhaul, with seven games remaining and 21 points available. According to ExpressAndStar.com, their revival has already carried them beyond several historic nadirs.

An awful start under Vitor Pereira prompted his dismissal, with former defender Rob Edwards appointed. Early results still stalled and the side remained rooted to the bottom.

Performances improved over the festive period and results followed. They cleared Derby County’s record-low 11 from 2007/08, then Southampton’s 12 last season and Sunderland’s 15 from 2005/06.

Sheffield United’s 16 in 2023/24 and Huddersfield Town’s 16 in 2018/19 have also been passed. They are now level with Aston Villa’s 2017/18 tally.

Next in sight is 19, set by Sunderland in 02/03 after surviving the previous year under Peter Reid. Reid, then Howard Wilkinson and Mick McCarthy, could not halt the slide.

Norwich posted 21 in 19/20 under Daniel Farke, straight back down with their worst Premier League total. They managed 22 in 21/22, with Farke replaced by Dean Smith.

Sheffield United ended on 23 in 20/21 despite Chris Wilder and later Paul Heckingbottom. Totals of 24 include Watford in 99/00 under Graham Taylor and Sunderland in 16/17 under David Moyes.

A 25-point finish features Wolves in 11/12, QPR in 12/13 and Southampton in 22/23. Then come Bradford on 26 in 00/01, Leicester and Watford on 28 in 01/02 and 06/07, and 30 for Cardiff in 13/14 and QPR in 14/15.
