Women's team face Argentina on 10 and 13 October, Porto Alegre and Recife

The Women’s National Team now knows its opponents and venues for the final two FIFA windows of 2026. On October 10, the Canarinho will face Argentina at Beira-Rio Stadium in Porto Alegre (RS), and on October 13 at Arena Pernambuco, in the metropolitan area of Recife (PE). Then, on November 29 and December 5, Brazil will take on Japan in Hiroshima and Okayama.

“We have the opportunity to close out the year with two FIFA windows against very different national teams. Argentina performed very well in the qualifiers and at the Copa América. It’s a team that has improved a lot. And the Japanese national team is one of the favorites for the World Cup and is always a very difficult opponent because of the quality of its players and its speed of play,” Arthur Elias emphasized.

According to the national team coach, the match in Japan presents an even greater challenge because of the logistics and time difference. “We are in the final stretch of defining our squad for the World Cup and, without a doubt, these two FIFA windows will contribute greatly to our evaluation,” he concluded.

The squad announcement for the first FIFA window, which runs from October 5 to 13, also already has a date set: September 22 at 3 p.m., in the CBF auditorium. Media accreditation, both for the matches and for the squad announcement, will open and be announced soon.

Big win and a first

Since taking charge of the national team, Arthur Elias has faced Argentina only once, in the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup. The Canarinho thrashed its rivals 5-1 and finished as runner-up in the competition, the first under the coach’s command.

The friendly against Argentina in October will mark a first: for the first time in history, Beira-Rio will host a match for the senior women’s national team. Opened in 1969 and reopened in 2014 for the men’s World Cup, the stadium will host seven matches at the 2027 Women’s World Cup: in addition to six group-stage games, one Round of 16 match.

Argentina secured its place at the World Cup in June this year, at the Copa América, and will also have the opportunity to play in host stadiums in front of Brazilian fans. Like Beira-Rio, Arena Pernambuco, opened in 2013, will host six group-stage matches and one Round of 16 match.

In June 2024, the stadium, located in São Lourenço da Mata, a municipality in the Greater Recife area, made history for the Canarinho when it drew 33,700 fans for the friendly in which Brazil beat Jamaica 4-0. At the time a women’s football record in the Northeast, the match still ranks among the largest crowds for the Women’s National Team in Brazil.

A familiar opponent on unfamiliar ground

Japan and the United States are the opponents coach Arthur Elias has faced most often with the national team: six matches each. Against Japan, the Canarinho has a positive record: 3 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses, as well as a goal difference of +1 for Brazil.

Although it is a familiar opponent, this will be the first time the match-up takes place on Japanese soil. There were four friendlies in Brazil in 2023 and 2025, one match at the SheBelieves Cup in the United States, and one at the Paris Olympics.
