FIFA announced on Thursday the schedule for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, confirming the final and the opening match will be staged at Rio’s Maracana on 25 July and 24 June respectively.

One semi-final will also take place at the Maracana on 21 July. The 32-team tournament in Brazil will be shared across eight host cities, with Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Recife, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza and Sao Paulo joining Rio. Sao Paulo will stage the other semi-final on 20 July.

Brazil will open their campaign at the Maracana, then play group matches in Sao Paulo on 29 June and in Brasilia on 4 July.

13 years after Germany’s 2014 triumph, the Maracana will become only the third venue to have hosted both men’s and women’s World Cup finals. Solna’s Rasunda did so in 1958 for the men and in 1995 for the women, while Pasadena’s Rose Bowl staged the showpieces in 1994 and 1999.

France have already qualified for the finals.
