A member of the goalkeeper ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week been urged to seek out an exit from the club.

The player in question? Marc-André ter Stegen.

Shot-stopper Ter Stegen is of course condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines at present.

This comes after the German was over the summer forced to undergo surgery on a long-standing back complaint.

Even upon his return to fitness, though, Ter Stegen is expected to find game time altogether difficult to come by in Catalunya’s capital.

This comes with the 33-year-old now sitting behind both Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny in the goalkeeper pecking order in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Ahead of next summer’s World Cup, Ter Stegen, in turn, has this week been advised to seek out a new club at the earliest opportunity.

Speaking during an interview with German outlet BILD, as cited by Diario Sport, ex-Barcelona star and German international Bernd Schuster explained:

“Since it is well known how ruthless Barça can be with players who no longer need them, if I were him, I would look for a new club in the winter. Flick has clearly put his trust in new signing Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny as a backup. Ter Stegen will not get another chance.”
