Preston North End once again failed to capitalise on results around them in the table as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Championship strugglers Huddersfield Town.

North End were sitting in fifth position in the second tier when Greg Cunningham bundled the ball home in the first half from a corner for the Lilywhites’ opening goal.

But the match was turned on its head in the second half, as goals on minutes 75 and 85 from Jordan Rhodes and a first for the club for Kaine Kesler Hayden saw the Terriers take the three points back across the Pennines.

Let’s look at who shone and who disappointed for North End on another dismal afternoon at Deepdale.

Freddie Woodman – 5

Positioning looked to be poor for both of Huddersfield’s goals. A rare off afternoon for the North End stopper.

Jordan Storey – 6

Didn’t make many mistakes of note. Was able to get up the pitch in the second half to try and make things happen but didn’t do anything with it.

Liam Lindsay – 6

Solid enough against an experienced striker in Rhodes. Was not his fault for either of the two Huddersfield goals.

Greg Cunningham – 5

A tale of two halves for the Irishman. Scored in the first and looked solid but was outpaced and outmuscled by Diarra for Huddersfield’s equaliser.

Brad Potts – 5

Wasn’t much of an attacking threat on the right. Strengthens Lowe’s need for a new wing-back in January.

Ben Whiteman – 5

Was afforded time on the ball for the most part but didn’t do much with it. Blasted a chance over the bar late on when he could have equalised.

Ryan Ledson – 6

Played a good through ball into Woodburn in the second half for a chance but it was wasted. Tried to make things happen to no avail.

Alvaro Fernandez – 5

Didn’t do much of note down the left. Needs to be more creative in the final third in the absence of Brady.

Ben Woodburn – 5

Spurned big chances either side of half-time. Lacked composure in-front of goal at important moments.

Daniel Johnson – 5

Some nice touches but generally anonymous for the most part. Not convincing if he wants a new contract.

Ched Evans – 7

Perhaps the only positive point for PNE. Held the ball up well, flicked the ball on for Cunningham’s opener and was a general nusiance.
