International tensions are now directly impacting football. Although Iran has qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, their participation in the tournament is suddenly in doubt.
Iranian Football Federation president Mehdi Taj has admitted that recent events have made the team’s presence in the United States highly uncertain, stating that only Iranian leaders will be able to decide whether the national team will take part or not.
Meanwhile, the national championship has been suspended until further notice. Several foreign players currently playing in Iran are expected to leave the country in the coming days. For now, no final decision has been announced, but the specter of conflict hangs over Iran’s participation in the 2026 World Cup.
