Tensions are running high between FC Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). After weeks of disputes regarding the physical management of Lamine Yamal, the RFEF has released a particularly scathing statement, calling out the Catalan club's conduct. At the center of the controversy: a medical procedure performed on the young sensation without the national team being notified.

A statement that sparks controversy

"The RFEF medical staff wish to express their surprise and discomfort after learning on Monday, November 10 at 1:47 p.m.—the official start day of the training camp—that Lamine Yamal had undergone a radiofrequency procedure to treat pubic discomfort," the statement reads.

The Federation clarified that this procedure was carried out "without any prior communication to the national team’s medical staff," who only learned of the details "from a report received at 10:40 p.m.," recommending a rest period of 7 to 10 days.

The RFEF concluded by explaining its decision to release the player, "prioritizing his health, safety, and well-being," while wishing him "a speedy and full recovery." The message, both firm and courteous, nonetheless reveals deep frustration toward Barça.

Barcelona accused of going it alone

This latest episode further intensifies the already simmering tensions between the Catalan club and the Spanish national team. Hansi Flick had recently criticized La Roja for overusing Yamal, while the Federation now accuses Barcelona of failing to communicate. In the background looms the issue of managing a 17-year-old player who is already indispensable for both Barça and Spain. The situation highlights the delicate balance between sporting ambition and medical caution—a saga that, by all accounts, is far from over.
