World Cup 2026: Strike ends for Nigeria ahead of showdown with Gabon
Good news for Nigeria: just two days before the decisive play-off clash against Gabon for a spot at the 2026 World Cup, the Super Eagles have called off their strike.
The players, who had boycotted training in Rabat due to unpaid bonuses, have finally returned to training after mediation between the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the team representatives. Captain William Troost-Ekong posted a reassuring message on X (formerly Twitter):
ISSUE RESOLVED. We are united and focused on the games ahead!
This decision puts an end to hours of uncertainty and allows the team to fully focus on the crucial play-off against Gabon for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
Nigeria will be looking to make the most of this reconciliation and secure a positive result on Thursday night at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, keeping their qualification hopes alive.
