The 21-year-old is said to have handed in a transfer request at Carrow Road earlier this summer

Carlton Palmer believes Norwich City could have a problem on their hands if Abu Kamara manages to force a move away from the club in the coming days.

The 21-year-old is said to have handed in a transfer request at Carrow Road recently, having been used as a substitute in the Canaries’ first two matches of the Championship season.

The playmaker shone on loan with Portsmouth in League One during the previous campaign, and gathered a glowing reputation after recording 18 goal contributions for the south coast side on their way to the third tier title.

But with fellow academy graduate Jon Rowe currently being chased by Ligue 1 side Marseille, Palmer believes the Norfolk outfit will need to tread carefully before the transfer window comes to a close.

Abu Kamara hands in transfer request as Jon Rowe talks continue

News of Kamara’s transfer request broke earlier this week, as BBC reported Nick Howell claimed Championship clubs were interested in the creative midfielder’s services this summer.

The young star has played just 17 minutes of football for the East Anglian outfit in the opening two matches of the season, and is well within his rights to have expected more game time after such a strong 23/24 campaign.

Kamara’s unsettled status will only add to the issues new City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup faces at this moment in time, with fellow frontman Rowe still being pursued by Marseille.

Telegraph reporter John Percy’s latest update suggests that the forward could be on his way to France before too long, with a loan deal with a £13.5 million obligation to buy being mooted.

With that in mind, Palmer is cautious about Norwich’s position as it stands, with Hull City, Celtic and Portsmouth said to be keen on Kamara.

“This is a problem for Norwich, given the Jon Rowe situation - Marseille have made a third bid for Jon Rowe - talks are still ongoing with Norwich looking for £15 million.

“They’ve got to £13.5 million it’s believed, so it’s very likely that Jon Rowe will be on his way.

“Norwich have made it very clear that Abu Kamara is not for sale, with the likes of Portsmouth, Hull and Celtic are all after him.

“He’s a very talented player but Norwich have made it very clear that even though he has put in a transfer request they are not interested in letting him leave before the transfer deadline on August 30th.”

Norwich City face uncertainty over Abu Kamara future

Kamara is obviously regarded as a top talent at Norwich City at this moment in time, but after such a promising stint at Fratton Park, it is understandable that he feels he is ready for regular game time at Carrow Road.

With forward Ante Crnac also said to be in talks about a move to Norfolk in the coming days, Kamara will face even more competition for a startling role if he stays with the Canaries.

Despite the reported interest from a whole host of clubs - which also includes Southampton and Anderlecht - there are no reports of any offers for the 21-year-old as it stands, but Palmer [pictured] is still unsure whether Kamara will be a Norwich City player when September comes.

The former England international continued: “Apparently there is no offer on the table, he has one-year left on his contract with a further one-year option, he’s been on the bench for the first two games of the season, and notched his first senior goal for the club in a recent League Cup win over Stevenage.

“Recent discussion have been held about a new contract with Kamara’s camp, as Johannes Hoff Thorup and sporting director Ben Knapper view the winger as an exciting crop of young talent at the club.

“He’s rated very highly which is no secret, he’s gone out on loan and done fantastic. Pompey boss John Mousinho has made it no secret of his desire to bring Kamara back to the south coast after his impressive loan stint.

“But that’s why you send players out on loan to do what Kamara has done, and now he’s had that experience he’s come back and the club want to keep hold of him.

“But it’s going to be difficult with the likes of Southampton, Hull, Anderlecht and Celtic all supposed to be interested in the player, but as it stands at the moment the club are standing firm and saying he is not for sale."
