Head of Sport Max Eberl had clear words for the Munich captain in the ZDF sports studio: „Manu is playing an outstanding season. He is an FC Bayern legend.“

The 52-year-old not only underlined the sporting importance of the veteran, but also his special status within the club. Neuer has been one of the defining figures at the German record champions for years and has once again delivered at the highest level this season

The Abendzeitung München recently reported that the club and player had already reached an agreement. Eberl denied this once again. However, in view of the world-class keeper’s strong performances, a contract extension seems only logical from Bayern’s point of view. „If he plays the way he does, then I don’t see what stands in the way of him staying on for a year,“ explained Eberl

This statement is very telling: Internally, it seems that the club are firmly planning to keep Neuer in the squad beyond the summer – provided that the player himself decides to continue his career

This is precisely the crucial point. Neuer himself has recently emphasized on several occasions that his physical condition is the most important factor for him. As long as he feels fit and can confirm his performances at the top level, there is little standing in the way of another season

An extension would also have strategic significance for FC Bayern, as Neuer could continue to act as the clear number one and at the same time play a central role in the integration of his potential successor

Particularly in a phase in which the squad is undergoing selective changes, the goalkeeper’s experience and leadership would be a decisive factor. Even if the final decision has yet to be made, the direction is clear: FC Bayern would like to continue with Manuel Neuer
