Wout Faes has left Leicester City to join United Arab Emirates club Shabab Al Ahli. He departs after four years, more than 130 appearances, and featuring in three relegations. Details of the transfer have not been disclosed.

According to BBC UK, the 28-year-old was reportedly close to joining West Ham on September’s deadline day before the move collapsed.

Leicester had been seeking to move on one of their highest earners as they adjust to League One finances, and interest from the Dubai club arrived with the UAE Pro League window still open.

Faes has 28 Belgium caps since 2021 and made his only appearance this season in the League One draw at Barnsley just before the early September international break.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Monaco, but the French side did not take up the option to make the move permanent.

A summer clearout followed Leicester’s back-to-back relegations from the Premier League and Championship. Jannik Vestergaard’s contract was terminated by mutual consent in July, Abdul Fatawu left for Ipswich Town and Hamza Choudhury joined Sheffield United.

Harry Winks was sold to Cagliari, Victor Kristiansen was loaned to Panathinaikos, and Stephy Mavididi and Oliver Skipp made similar moves to Watford and Charlton. Earlier, Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka and captain Ricardo Pereira were released at the end of their contracts.
