Former Leicester City midfielder Robbie Savage is in talks over the Peterborough United job, a move that could bring an early return to Filbert Way.

"I don't know, I've got a game to prepare for and I'm really excited to watch my team," he said when asked if he had any contact from Peterborough, speaking to BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Savage is currently manager of National League side Forest Green Rovers, having previously been at Macclesfield. He has been linked with Peterborough since the League One club sacked Luke Williams earlier this month.

He has been granted permission to speak to another club and will miss Forest Green's home game against Wealdstone on Tuesday night.

Peterborough have not been named as the club in talks, although it is highly likely to be them. They are 23rd in League One with one win from eight league matches, including a home defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

If he does take over at London Road, Savage would return to LE2 in one of his first games. Leicester City host Peterborough at the King Power Stadium next Saturday, 11 October, in their first game after the current international break. The Welshman made 204 appearances for City between 1997 and 2002, lifting the League Cup in 2000 before joining Birmingham City.
