The Norwegian began the final but was forced off at half time due to injury. Despite Celtic being under pressure for much of the game, Neil Lennon’s side secured a famous 1-0 victory through Christopher Jullien’s volley and Fraser Forster’s outstanding performance in goal.

The English goalkeeper produced a series of remarkable saves, including a superb penalty stop to deny Alfredo Morelos. The finest save from Forster perhaps came in the first half, preventing Ryan Jack’s long-range effort from heading into the top corner.

Speaking via Record Celtic podcast, Elyounoussi said: “That was one of the best. I played with a lot of good goalkeepers, but I think that was the one where [I was] like ‘Wow, he’s insane’.

“I think we can send big thanks of ours to him. He’s the reason we won that game. I remember that day we were really really struggling. Big Fraser, he deserves all the praise for that game and obviously winning a cup final against theRangers, that’s something you remember forever.”

“I remember also before the game, suddenly my legs started shaking. And I was like ‘Wow, I haven’t been nervous for a long time’. Then I realised it wasn’t me being nervous, it was the whole stadium, it was shaking.”

Celtic completed a Treble in the 2019/20 campaign, though their Scottish Cup victory was delayed by more than a year after the League Cup win because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Elyounoussi now plies his trade with Danish Superliga side Copenhagen who currently sit third in the table after 11 matches.

Celtic travel to Denmark early next month to face Midtjylland in the Europa League. The Hoops’ opponents recently beat Ange Postecoglou’s struggling Nottingham Forest 3-2 at the City Ground prior to the international break so it will be a tough game for Brendan Rodgers’ men.
