Wrexham are considering a move for Plymouth striker Bim Pepple if they fail in an ambitious deal for Leeds United's Lukas Nmecha.

Wrexham are interested in Plymouth’s Bim Pepple as they look to add another attacker to Phil Parkinson’s squad.

The Red Dragons were forced to settle for a point in their first game of the season, as a Rubin Colwill free-kick in stoppage time salvaged a draw for Cardiff in the all-Welsh clash.

Despite that, there were positives for Parkinson to take from the performance, but it appears he is still expecting to be active ahead of the transfer deadline.

It has been claimed that Wrexham are keen on Leeds United’s Lukas Nmecha, but a deal for the German international was always going to be difficult to pull off for numerous reasons.

Firstly, this would be a significant outlay in terms of the wages required, even if they could agree a fee for the 27-year-old.

Then, it would be tough to convince Leeds to sell a player who is only behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order, and Nmecha may not want to drop to the Championship considering he featured in 31 Premier League games last season, scoring six times.

However, any deal for the 23-year-old won’t be straightforward either, as the report states that Preston are also tracking Pepple, and there is interest from clubs in Europe and America.

Bim Pepple is capable of handling the step up to the Championship

This is not the news that Plymouth fans would’ve wanted to hear, especially after losing Lorent Tolaj to Bristol City earlier in the window.

But, the reality is that Pepple is a player who has the quality to operate at a higher level than League One, and he really matured and improved in the past year at Home Park.

Pepple has always had the physical attributes to cause problems, but he has got a lot better in front of goal for Argyle, and he has developed his all-round game.

Plus, at 23, he still has a lot of room to get better, so clubs will see him as someone who can go up another level or two surrounded by better players.

With Sam Smith and avis Keillor-Dunn coming off the bench against Cardiff, and Josh Windass currently out injured, it’s not like Wrexham are short of options in attack.

So, it’s not a case of just going out and signing anybody to beef up the group, as whoever they bring in should be seen as a clear upgrade on what they have.

Obviously, there will be debates over whether Pepple falls into that category, and his record is underwhelming on the basis that he hasn’t played in the Championship, and the previous campaign was the first time he scored goals consistently.

But, there’s no denying he has different attributes to the current crop of forwards at Wrexham, as he will run in behind and stretch the defence.

Those are qualities that Parkinson will want, and there will be a belief that Pepple is ready to take that next step in his career, and that he could flourish in the Championship.
