Wrexham are tipped for an aggressive summer after a January pivot towards lower-fee, higher-upside deals that could help under PSR.

"Wrexham have almost got a three-year hit at the Championship if they choose to go down that road and I think they will do given the owners and backing," said Dr Plumley, speaking to Covers.com.

Backed by Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, they spent £33m after promotion from League One, including a club-record move for Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich.

January was more restrained, around £5m on three, with a late flurry for Zak Vyner from Bristol City for about £1.5m, Davis Keillor-Dunn from Barnsley for £2.5m and Bailey Cadamarteri from Sheffield Wednesday for £1m.

"Giving yourselves a tilt at maybe getting into the playoffs this season could fast forward the timeline a little bit but I think we'll continue to see them be aggressive in the summer wherever they end up."

Wrexham are sixth in the Championship with 16 games left and host fifth-placed Millwall on Saturday in a key play-off contest.
