A report claims Wrexham are attempting to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, that he could be available for around £7million, that Wrexham would prefer either a straight loan or an initial loan with an option or obligation to buy, that Rangers have been discouraged by the valuation, and that Wolverhampton Wanderers have considered him but would likely need to move a goalkeeper before acting.
Patterson is expected to leave the Stadium of Light this summer after falling behind Robin Roefs in the pecking order. The 26-year-old has returned to the Academy of Light and is training with the senior goalkeepers while his future is resolved.
Millwall are keen to bring him back to The Den after a successful loan in the second half of last season. He arrived in February having made only one senior appearance for Sunderland earlier in the campaign.
Patterson’s Sunderland story already includes two promotions. He made his competitive debut in an EFL Trophy defeat at Fleetwood Town in November 2020, then spent time on loan at Notts County before a mid-season recall amid injuries.
He established himself and played throughout the League One play-offs, beating Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley to end Sunderland’s four-year stay in the third tier.
Three years later he produced key saves against Sheffield United at Wembley as Régis Le Bris’ side won 2-1 to secure promotion to the Premier League, before Roefs’ emergence curtailed his minutes and preceded the Millwall loan.
