Arthur Okonkwo is edging towards the exit at Wrexham as interest grows in the 24-year-old goalkeeper after Anthony Patterson’s £eight million arrival. According to Wales Online, Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers are monitoring him, with Derby County also keen.
Okonkwo joined in 2023, initially on loan, and has since won two promotions. He has dropped behind Patterson and fellow keeper Danny Ward in Phil Parkinson’s hierarchy and is likely to seek more secure minutes.
He was omitted from the squad for the 1-1 draw at Cardiff on opening weekend, Patterson started and Ward was on the bench. A last-minute Ruben Colwill free-kick earned a point after Wrexham had conceded early to Kieffer Moore.
In the Carabao Cup first round at Middlesbrough, Ward started and Okonkwo remained on the bench.
The Nigerian is into the final year of his contract and could leave for free next summer if he is not sold in the next two windows.
Parkinson has indicated further change in the goalkeeping department could be considered, noting the club wanted to strengthen and would assess matters before the window closes.
Charlton chief executive Jim Rodwell has confirmed talks with Wrexham over signing one of their players, and clarified it was not midfielder George Dobson.
Okonkwo helped Wrexham climb from League Two to the Championship and earned a permanent deal. He has 47 clean sheets in 121 games and made his Nigeria debut in May’s Unity Cup, now with two caps.
