Arsenal have strengthened their frontline with the permanent signing of German striker Selina Cerci from TSG Hoffenheim, bringing one of Europe’s most prolific goal-scorers to North London ahead of the new campaign.
The 26-year-old arrives after an exceptional two-year spell with Hoffenheim, where she scored 34 goals in 47 appearances and established herself as one of the league’s most clinical forwards.
Across the past two league seasons, Cerci managed to find the net 32 times and contributed nine assists. She finished as the Bundesliga’s joint top scorer in 2024/25 before leading the league again in overall goal contributions.
“I’m incredibly happy to be here,” Cerci said after completing the move. “Joining Arsenal is a huge honour, and I’m excited for the challenge ahead. This is a chance to play alongside world-class teammates and compete in one of the strongest leagues in women’s football. I can’t wait to get started and experience playing at Emirates Stadium in front of the supporters.”
Born in Kiel, Germany, Cerci’s football journey began at local club SV Friedrichsort before progressing through the youth ranks at Holstein Kiel and Magdeburger FFC. Her prolific scoring record earned her a move to Bayern Munich in 2017. There, she immediately impressed with the club’s second team by scoring 15 goals in 22 league matches.
She later enjoyed spells with Werder Bremen, Turbine Potsdam and FC Köln. She continued to steadily develop into one of Germany’s most dangerous attacking players. Comfortable leading the line or operating in wider attacking positions, Cerci is known for her intelligent movement, aerial ability and instinctive finishing inside the penalty area.
Her rise, however, has not come without setbacks. In 2022, while leading the Bundesliga scoring charts with Turbine Potsdam, Cerci suffered an ACL injury that ruled her out of UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 and delayed what many believed would be her international breakthrough. Rather than derail her career, the injury became a turning point. After working her way back to full fitness, she rediscovered her best form at Hoffenheim, emerging as one of the most feared strikers in German football.
That resurgence also reignited her international career. After making her senior Germany debut against Spain in 2022, Cerci returned to the national team in 2024 following her recovery and has since earned 20 caps and scored five goals. She was also a part of the Germany squad that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Arsenal Director Clare Wheatley believes Cerci’s proven goalscoring pedigree makes her an ideal addition to the squad.
“Selina has consistently demonstrated her quality as a goalscorer in the Frauen-Bundesliga, and we’re delighted to bring her to Arsenal. We believe she has all the attributes to make a successful transition to the Women’s Super League. We’re excited to see her continue her development here. We’re pleased to welcome Selina and her family to the club.”
Head coach Renée Slegers is equally excited by what the German international will bring to Arsenal’s attack.
“Selina’s record speaks for itself. She has a real eye for goal, offers physicality and presence in the final third, and works tirelessly for the team. Those qualities make her an excellent fit for the way we want to play. We’re looking forward to seeing her become part of this squad.”
Cerci will wear the No.29 shirt as she begins the next chapter of her career at Arsenal as the club prepares to compete on multiple fronts this season.
