Chloe Digby·2 March 2025
All the WSL sides were in action this Sunday, with league leaders Chelsea travelling to Brighton and Man City away at Tottenham.
Here's what happened.
Scorers: Tysiak 7', 12', Martinez 51'; Kelly 44', McCabe 56', Williamson 58'
Arsenal came back from 3-1 down to register a sensational 4-3 win over West Ham.
The Hammers stunned Arsenal after just seven minutes as defender Amber Tysiak rose highest to head home from a corner.
Just five minutes later, the Hammers delivered another corner into the box, and after a game of head tennis, the ball dropped to Tysiak's feet and she scrambled it across the goal line to deliver her brace.
As half-time approached, the Gunners handed themselves a lifeline, when Chloe Kelly bagged her first goal since returning to Arsenal with an acrobatic finish from close range.
But West Ham struck again early in the second half, as Shekiera Martinez drove forward on a solo run into the box, beating her defender and slotting the ball beyond Daphne van Domselaar.
Just five minutes later, the Gunners reduced the deficit once again, this time through Katie McCabe's bizarre effort that she powered home from the by-line.
This crazy match had another twist in the tale as Arsenal scored their second in two minutes, Leah Williamson heading home from a corner to put the scores at 3-3.
West Ham didn't even have time to catch their breath before the home side struck again when they were awarded a penalty, which Mariona Caldentey slotted home.
Scorers: Baltimore 16', James 61'; Olislagers 22', Losada 42'
League leaders Chelsea dropped points for only the second time this season as they drew 2-2 away to Brighton.
It was the Blues who took the lead after some sublime work from Lauren James on the wing led to a stunning finish on the volley from Sandy Baltimore.
But Brighton were not willing to let the league leaders roll them over, and Marisa Olislagers put her side level with a difficult strike from a tight angle.
Before half-time, the Seagulls put themselves ahead as Vicky Losada shifted well inside the box and delivered a left-footed finish from inside the box.
Substitute Mayra Ramírez made an immediate impact on the hour mark as her shot was parried into the path of James, who finished with supreme confidence to level up the scores.
Chelsea still hold a five point lead over Manchester United at the top, while Brighton consolidated their position in fifth.
Scorers: Malard 19', Galton 45+2'
Manchester United romped to their seventh consecutive league win with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City.
It didn't take the Reds long to make the breakthrough, as Ella Toone played a perfect through-ball to Melvine Malard, who beat her defender for pace, leaving her one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The France international kept her composure and delivered an exquisite finish with the outside of her boot to beat the onrushing Janina Leitzig.
Marc Skinner's side delivered a hammer blow in added time at the end of the first half when Malard turned provider, playing a killer through-ball to Leah Galton, who made no mistake with her finish.
That win consolidate's Man Utd's position in second place in the table, ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final against Sunderland next weekend, while the Foxes remain in trouble at the bottom of the league with just three wins from 15 games.
Scorers: Miedema 11', Fujino 78'; England 32'
Manchester City battled to a 2-1 away at Tottenham, with Aoba Fujino stealing the show.
The first came when Fujino floated in a cross from the right-hand side, for Vivianne Miedema to use her height well to power home a header.
Yet it would not all be plain sailing for Gareth Taylors side, as Tottenham found the equaliser when Olivia Holdt picked out Bethany England inside the box and the striker powered her finish into the top corner.
Man City battled back and with just over 10 minutes of normal time remaining, Fujino went from provider to goal scorer as she ran towards goal, controlling the ball with her right foot inside the box, before finishing with her left.
The result leaves Man City five points behind rivals Manchester United.
Scorers: Matthews 10'
Both of these sides parted ways with their respective managers in midweek, but it was Liverpool who edged a 1-0 victory.
The Reds struck first following a goalmouth scramble from a corner, with Jasmine Matthews finally managing to get the ball over the line with a poacher's finish.
That win puts Crystal Palace in further trouble at the bottom of the table, and sees Liverpool move up to 6th position.
Scorers: Mjelde 16', Hayashi 59'
It was a good day for Everton as they ran out 2-0 winners at Villa Park.
A tenacious attack from Everton saw Janaury signing Maren Mjelde score her first for the Toffees, scooping her finish over goalkeeper Sabrina D'Angelo.
Honoka Hayashi – fresh from a win at the SheBelieves cup with Japan – doubled Everton's lead she span inside the six-yard box and fired the ball in off the crossbar.
That was Everton's fourth win of the season, leaving them in eighth place, while Aston Villa remain second from bottom in the table.
There are two WSL games in midweek to look forward to, as Manchester City travel to West Ham and Chelsea host Leicester City.
