Xabi Alonso hails Pedro Neto as “a guy you want in your team” after winger signs new Chelsea deal to 2032 | OneFootball

Xabi Alonso has said Pedro Neto is a player you want 'in your team' after the winger signed a new Chelsea contract.

Neto has put pen to paper on a new deal until 2032 at Stamford Bridge, recognition for an impressive start to the campaign. The Portugal international has netted twice so far this season and has shone in a wing-back role under Alonso.

The 26-year-old had been linked with an exit in the summer, but has now recommitted his future to the club.

Alonso said he sees Neto as a wide player who can contribute at both ends of the pitch.

"For me, he is a winger. You can call him a winger or wing-back because he has many qualities. He can play on the last line and defend on the first line. He has this capacity to do many things," Alonso said ahead of Chelsea's clash with Hull in thePremier League this weekend.

"He is good in one on ones, he is scoring goals and has a fantastic work rate. He connects very well with players around him.

"I knew him very well from watching many Chelsea games and with him you know he is going to compete. You want this guy in your team. I am very happy with Pedro and the work he is doing."

Neto, who has made 108 appearances for Chelsea since signing from Wolves in 2024, expressed his delight with his new deal and said he's confident the Blues' squad can achieve 'a lot of things together'.
