Xabi Alonso has left Marc Guiu without a Chelsea squad number for 2026-27, signalling a possible exit. AS reports that the 20-year-old is missing from the club list, with his former 38 now assigned to Tosin Adarabioyo. Of the seven centre-forwards, only Guiu and David Datro Fofana are unregistered.
Guiu played 16 games in 2024-25 and scored six in the Conference League, which Chelsea won against Real Betis. He joined Sunderland on loan for 2025-26, but Chelsea ended it after Nico Jackson moved to Bayern Munich and Liam Delap was injured.
After three games and one goal he returned to Stamford Bridge, yet minutes remained scarce. His strike against Ajax briefly made him Chelsea’s youngest Champions League scorer, and he finished last season on 498 minutes from 13 appearances with four goal contributions.
Enzo Maresca’s departure and further dugout upheaval again pushed him to the fringes, and that has not changed under Alonso. Axel Disasi is also without a number and, with a 40-plus squad, several players appear set to move on.
Guiu has been linked with Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Saudi football. Renumberings include João Pedro taking the number nine from Liam Delap, Fofana the three and Mudryk the 33, while new arrivals include Pep Chavarría 29, Palestra two, Barco four and Lacroix five. Signed in 2024 for 6 million euros, he has a contract to 2029 with an option of one more, and may need to earn Alonso’s trust away from Stamford Bridge.
