Xabi Alonso steers clear of Yamal row: “I’m not getting involved”

The coach of Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso, avoided commenting on the controversial statements made by the young star of Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, on the eve of the La Liga Classic.

“I won't get into it, no. There are many statements coming from people at Barcelona, I can't evaluate them all. What matters to us is what happens on the field,” said Alonso at a press conference this Saturday (25).

Yamal's Provocation

This week, the 18-year-old forward participated in a conversation with content creator Ibai Llanos, in which he accused Real Madrid of “stealing” and made jokes about victories and goals scored against the rival. The statements were seen in Madrid as provocation and arrogance.

Focus on the Field

Real Madrid arrives at the classic defending the La Liga leadership, with a two-point advantage over Barcelona. Despite the weight of the match, Alonso showed calmness:

“I know the magnitude of the game, but the day-to-day doesn't change. It's special, but not to the point of altering our routine.”
