Xabi Alonso, 44, is in line to become Chelsea head coach next season, The Athletic reports.
RMC Sport also reports the prospective appointment, while Marca states he is close to taking charge.
Chelsea were beaten in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Alonso impressed at Bayer Leverkusen, delivering a league and cup double in 2024.
He then endured a tougher spell at Real Madrid and was dismissed on 12 January.
If appointed, he would step into a notably unstable set-up. Chelsea have had three coaches this season. Callum McFarlane took interim charge after Liam Rosenior was dismissed, having replaced Enzo Maresca.
The club are ninth in the Premier League and were knocked out of the Champions League in the last 16 by PSG.
