Xavi has been appointed Netherlands head coach on a four-year deal running to 2030, succeeding Ronald Koeman. His appointment was confirmed on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, De Telegraaf reported that Xavi Hernandez met senior federation figures on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old Catalan has been out of work since leaving Barcelona in summer 2024. This is his first managerial post at international level.

He was in contention alongside Roberto Martinez, while the names of Peter Bosz, Arne Slot, Erik Ten Hag and Michael Reiziger were also linked with the vacancy.

The Netherlands are coming off a disappointing exit at the 2026 World Cup, beaten by Morocco in the round of 32. It finished 1-1, then 3-2 on penalties.
