Manchester United are reportedly planning to sanction a summer swoop for RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande if their bid to land Antoine Semenyo fails.
United are one of the clubs hot on the trail of Bournemouth star Semenyo, who is expected to pick his preferred transfer destination imminently.
Semenyo has carried his excellent form into this season, attracting continued interest from a growing list of clubs.
United and cross-town rivals Manchester City are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature but they’re not the only parties keen, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur also keeping close tabs on the situation.
More recently, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Chelsea have stormed into the race for the Ghana international’s services. While they have a good chance of landing him, it’s far from guaranteed that Semenyo will be a United player next month.
As the situation rumbles on, talkSPORT reveal that United have lined up Diomande as an alternative to Semenyo.
According to talkSPORT, “Manchester United are the latest club keeping track of Leipzig rising star Yan Diomande.”
“United have identified Diomande as a potential target if they fail to land Antoine Semenyo, although would not pursue their interest in the Bundesliga man until the summer.”
talkSPORT note that Leipzig value Diomande at £87m.
A fast and explosive winger who is capable of playing either wing, Diomande boasts an impressive return of six goals and half as many assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances so far this season.
The 19-year-old combines excellent dribbling and close control with the quick feints and technical quality needed to evade defenders. Complementing his attacking skill is notable physical strength and a strong defensive work rate, ensuring he contributes in all phases of play.
He only joined Leipzig in July this year from Spanish club CD Leganes in a deal worth around €20m. He put pen to paper on a deal running up to 2030.
