Yangel Herrera has sustained a left soleus muscle injury, leaving him practically ruled out of the Copa final. The Venezuelan midfielder left the pitch in tears during Sunday’s match against Osasuna.

Real Sociedad confirmed on Monday that medical tests detected the problem in his left leg and no recovery timeframe has been set.

The setback is particularly painful given his fitness record in Donostia. He arrived from Girona last summer carrying a significant injury to the tendon of his right hamstring, which derailed his start. Because of that rehabilitation, his Real Sociedad debut was delayed until 19 October.

Since that bow, progress has been repeatedly interrupted. After overcoming issues that sidelined him through the final stretch of 2025 and just as he seemed to settle into the ‘plan Matarazzo’, this fresh pause cuts his momentum.

The recurrence of muscle problems in recent months has denied him the continuity needed to nail down a midfield spot for Real Sociedad, especially with Turrientes and Gorrotxategi performing well.
