Al-Hilal suffered a late setback as Yassine Bounou was injured in the warm-up, ruling him out of Monday evening’s Roshn Saudi Pro League meeting with Neom in round six.

Al-Hilal announced shortly before kick-off that goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais would start in his place after Bounou reported hamstring pain. The club did not disclose the extent of the issue or a timeframe for his return.

Italy’s Simone Inzaghi and his staff selected Al-Owais in goal, with Mohammed Al-Rubaie named on the bench to cover Bounou’s absence.

The injury arrived at an awkward moment for the Moroccan, who had been due to start as Inzaghi looked to keep Al-Hilal’s strong league form rolling.

Al-Owais steps in having already featured this season, bringing considerable experience with Al-Hilal and the Saudi national team.
