„Yes-word given“: Bayern boss confirms Upamecano extension

FC Bayern and Dayot Upamecano have haggled over every detail for months, but now the knot has finally been tied. The French centre-back’s contract extension is imminent – and for the first time was confirmed not by transfer insiders, but from the highest level. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen made it unmistakably clear after the 5-1 win against TSG Hoffenheim that the deal is practically done

While sporting director Max Eberl had spoken of a very close breakthrough in the run-up to the game, Dreesen went a decisive step further. „If you trust each other and say yes to each other, then it’s no longer important when you sign the contract. There’s nothing wrong, it’s just a matter of days,“ explained the CEO, leaving no doubt about the extension

According to consistent media reports, Dayot Upamecano will sign a new four-year contract until 2030, allowing FC Bayern to tie down one of its most important defensive players for the long term and at the same time create planning security in the center of defense. Financially, the 27-year-old is moving into new dimensions: His annual salary is expected to be around 20 million euros in the future, making him one of the absolute top earners at Säbener Straße

In addition, the French international will receive a handsome hand money, ranging between 15 and 20 million euros depending on the source – a key point that delayed the contract poker for months and caused discussions both internally and externally

Exit clause leaves back door open

Despite the long-term nature of the deal, Upamecano’s future until 2030 is not set in stone. Part of the new contract is a fixed exit clause worth €65 million, which will take effect from the summer of 2027 and give the central defender the opportunity to leave FC Bayern early

Nevertheless, the overall package is a success for those responsible in Munich. After a long period of hesitation, repeated improvements and public pressure, Bayern have retained a key player who plays a key role under Vincent Kompany. The fact that the CEO himself has now confirmed the imminent completion of the deal underlines the importance of this personnel decision – and puts an end to one of the toughest contract announcements in the club’s recent history.
