Yevgeny Savin has rebuilt his anti-Putin Krasava FC in Cyprus, lifting it into the top flight. L'Équipe reports that after opposing the war in Ukraine, the club’s founder was forced into exile and restarted the project abroad.

The team had been in Russia’s third division when Savin made his stand. The Russian club became Cypriot in summer 2022 as FC Krasava ENY, a few months after the start of Russia’s second invasion of Ukraine.

Savin, his wife Daria and their daughter Sofia attend every match from the popular end, among the fans, and they make themselves heard.

He has said he could never recreate the club if it were to die, describing himself as father to his children and to FC Krasava ENY. He is father to Sofia and a son, Platon.

Having secured promotion to the elite, Savin now dreams of taking the club into European competition.
