Yoane Wissa celebrated like he had won the Champions League upon signing for Newcastle United on transfer deadline day, according to the Daily Mail.
The former Brentford forward was the last signing for Newcastle during the summer transfer window, joining the club on Monday.
However, Wissa was seconds away from having to head back to the London club after leaving it late to sign a critical document.
The striker had not signed it at 8.58 pm, with his agent sprinting to find him. Wissa had stepped onto the terrace overlooking the training pitches at the club’s training ground shortly before the 9.00 pm extended deadline.
The document was on a mobile phone, and Wissa scratched his signature on the screen. Newcastle’s administrative team quickly uploaded the document and sent it to the Premier League.
The email was sent at 8.59 pm, and the Premier League’s automated response recorded it as received a few seconds later.
Wissa joined the Magpies in a £50 million deal after pushing for the move most of the summer, and he was elated when it finally got over the line.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will be relieved he got his man, as he wanted two strikers for the new season.
They signed Germany international striker Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart over the weekend, and adding Wissa to their attacking ranks is a huge boost.
The opportunity to play Champions League football at Newcastle appealed to the 29-year-old DR Congo international, and he will now look to hit the ground running at his new club.
Wissa has proven himself in the Premier League over the last four campaigns, with 45 goals and 13 assists to his name in 137 appearances.
