Yoane Wissa could be part of Newcastle United’s match-day squad to face Burnley on Saturday.

The 29-year-old joined the Tyneside club from Brentford in a £55 million deal on deadline day last summer.

But Wissa is yet to play for the Magpies after sustaining a knee injury in September.

He scored and assisted in DR Congo’s 4-1 win over South Sudan in the World Cup qualifiers, but picked up a knock in a 3-2 defeat to Senegal

Wissa has since worked hard to regain full fitness and is now back in team training.

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle are expected to decide on Friday whether to name the forward in the squad for Saturday’s fixture.

Wissa reportedly did everything possible to make his move to St James’ Park happen.

He even made a wage concession to reduce the overall cost of the transfer for his new club.

Wissa is a versatile player who can operate as a striker as well as a winger. He is highly rated for his pace, power, work-rate and finishing ability.

The centre-forward is also Premier League proven, enjoying an excellent four-year spell at Brentford. He scored 49 goals and 13 assists in 149 senior appearances for the Bees.

Wissa’s return will be a boost for Eddie Howe’s side who have been struggling for consistency this campaign.

They claimed a brilliant 2-1 victory over Manchester City last month, but then slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Marseille in the Champions League.

Newcastle bounced back emphatically with a 4-1 success against Everton last weekend, before playing out a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.
