York City have sacked promotion-winning manager Stuart Maynard just days before the start of the 2026/27 season.
Maynard was in charge as the Minstermen won the National League in dramatic circumstances last season thanks to a 103rd minute equaliser away to Rochdale.
However, the club have now decided to sack their manager with a League Cup game at home to Crawley Town just days away on August 3rd.
"This has not been an easy decision, and it is not one the board has taken lightly," the club said in a statement.
"Ultimately, it comes down to a difference in direction and vision for the football club.
"We recognise that, from the outside, this may look like a strange or difficult decision to understand. But we believe that in the long term, the football club will be in a stronger position because of it, another step towards the vision we, as custodians of this club, believe will deliver sustained success."
The statement went on to thank Maynard for his contribution to York City after a record of 32 wins, six draws, and four defeats in 42 games last season.
