John Anderson has been talking about Lewis Hall.
The former Newcastle United defender pointing out that it has to be only a matter of when, not if, the England international international returns to the starting 11.
As Lewis Hall has completed his full recovery from surgery and now back to full fitness, when will Eddie Howe change things?
Two clean sheets in the opening three Premier League games so far, have been achieved with the help of Kieran Trippier on the right and Tino Livramento on the left.
I have been surprised at how some Newcastle United fans have forgotten so quickly, just how outstanding Lewis Hall was last season.
In the end he wasn’t involved in the win at Wembley, nor the Champions League run-in.
However, before that, there was talk of Lewis Hall even potentially ending up as Newcastle United’s player of the season.
Picking up his season ending injury, ironically at Anfield in the final match of February, the lifelong Newcastle United fan missed the Liverpool cup final and the final 11 Premier League games of the season.
Before that though, Lewis Hall had played in all 27 Premier League matches and started 24 of them. Whilst in the Carabao Cup run of six games that got United to the final, Lewis Hall came off the bench against AFC Wimbledon and started in the wins over Chelsea, Brentford, Forest and Arsenal (twice!).
The full-back conundrum is one of many signs that Eddie Howe has some real strength in depth now, long may it continue.
John Anderson talking to BBC Radio Newcastle about Lewis Hall pushing for a return to the Newcastle United starting eleven:
“Tino Livramento has been great at left-back and was for England on Tuesday as well.
“Lewis Hall had another full week’s training [with Newcastle United] and has been getting the yards in.
” So there could be a possibility of Hall coming in at left-back and Livramento switching to right-back.
“It’s a nice problem for Eddie Howe to have, because Trippier started the season at right-back because of Hall’s [injury] situation.
“I think he might stick with Trippier and keep Livramento at left-back [against Wolves], to give Hall a little bit more time.
“It’s a defence that’s kept two clean sheets in the three league games so far, so why would he look at changing it?
“But somewhere along the line you have got to get Lewis Hall back in the side.
