Yuri Alberto missed Fernando Diniz’s first Corinthians training session on Tuesday after having his wisdom teeth removed. The striker’s mouth is swollen, so he was excused from the workout.

According to Globo.com, he will be monitored daily by the club’s medical staff. At this stage the pain would not prevent him from playing on Thursday against Platense in Argentina, the São Paulo side’s Conmebol Libertadores group-stage opener.

With Yuri and Memphis absent, the latter treating a muscle injury sustained on 22 March, Diniz met his new squad for the first time. The day at CT Joaquim Grava began with two meetings, one with players, staff and directors, then a players-only briefing behind closed doors.

On the pitch, the head coach ran two tactical drills and demanded high intensity. In one exercise he shrank the playing area for two against two and then one against one duels, focusing on speed, crossing, finishing and swift decision-making.

On Wednesday morning Diniz will pick starters and reserves for the Libertadores debut. After lunch the delegation fly to Buenos Aires to start their concentration in Vicente López for the Platense match.
