Yuri Alberto out with muscle fibrosis, Corinthians hope for post-window return | OneFootball

According to Meu Timao, Yuri Alberto has missed Corinthians’ recent games after complications in his right hamstring recovery, developing muscle fibrosis that is still limiting strength and mobility, costing him the Libertadores quarter-finals.

He sat out the 1-1 draw at Estudiantes in Argentina and the 1-0 defeat at Neo Química Arena, which sealed Corinthians’ elimination.

Orthopaedist Bruno Canizares explains fibrosis is scar tissue laid down after a muscle tear, and although some scarring is normal, it can be problematic if too stiff or not remodelled for elite load.

Fibrosis does not automatically mean pain. A player may handle daily tasks or light drills yet still fall short of match intensity, and hamstrings face sprints, accelerations, decelerations and turns, so load must be built up first.

In Yuri Alberto’s case there was a partial rupture of the fibrosis during rehab. Canizares calls it an intercurrent event or setback of the original injury, adding it could count as a recurrence depending on scans he has not seen.

Clearance depends on more than imaging. Staff consider pain, range of movement, strength, comparison with the other leg and functional tests, and scans can overstate changes in fit players or look fine when the muscle is not sprint ready.

Corinthians hope to have Yuri Alberto available after the FIFA international window, which ends in early October. Their next fixture after the break is at Internacional, Estádio Beira-Rio, on seven October, Wednesday, at 19:30.
