Yuri Alberto struggles with recent penalties taken for Corinthians

Corinthians drew with Santos in the fourth round of the Paulistão, 1-1, at Vila Belmiro. Although he scored the Corinthians goal to open the scoring, Yuri Alberto was also marked by a mistake. He missed a penalty just minutes before finding the net, worsening his recent record of missed penalties.

Before this attempt against Santos, the number 9 had taken one of the penalties in the Copa do Brasil semifinal against Cruzeiro. The player missed then as well, but Corinthians ended up qualifying after two saves by Hugo Souza. In total, Yuri Alberto has missed four out of his last five penalties, with a success rate of just 20%.

The other missed penalties were against Palmeiras and Flamengo, the first in the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil, when Weverton saved the shot at Neo Química Arena, and the other in the Brasileirão, when he tried a chip shot and Rossi saved it with ease. The only penalty he converted was against São Paulo, in the Brazilian Championship.

Even with the missed penalty, which was earned after a play made by Yuri Alberto himself, he redeemed himself and found the net again, as mentioned. With this goal, Santos has become the player’s main target during his time at Corinthians, with eight goals scored in 13 derbies played. São Paulo is second, with seven goals, alongside Atlético-GO.
