Yuri Alberto will miss Corinthians’ Libertadores quarter-final first leg away to Estudiantes next Wednesday at 21:30 in Argentina after a setback in his recovery from a right hamstring injury. According to Globo.com, the 25-year-old has regressed because fibrosis developed in the area.

He had been cleared by the medical department last week and passed to the fitness staff to begin his transition. He took part in two training sessions with the squad at CT Joaquim Grava.

On 27 he felt discomfort in his right thigh during a run. Since then he has returned to the medical department, stopped on-pitch work, and there is currently no timetable for a return to training.

Despite being cleared to resume unrestricted activity on 26 August, staff across the club were aware of his recovery stage. He left the medical department with thigh fibrosis, and the issue intensified during the transition to on-grass work. Fibrosis is a type of hardened tissue that forms during healing.

The initial expectation had been for the number nine to feature in the derby against Santos last Sunday. The current aim is to have him ready for the second leg against Estudiantes on the 16th.

Yuri Alberto sustained the injury on 30 July during the match against Athletico at Neo Química Arena, leaving the pitch on a stretcher in tears.
