Flamengo academy graduates Yuri César and Guilherme Bala, now at Shabab Al-Ahli, have naturalised and been called up by the United Arab Emirates for the Gulf Cup in the next FIFA window, facing Yemen, Bahrain and Qatar.

According to Coluna Do Fla, both were included earlier this year only for a training camp, so their UAE debuts could come in September.

Yuri César called the selection a huge honour and said he feels happy at Shabab Al-Ahli, adding that he wants to make the most of the opportunity.

César has spent seven years with Shabab Al-Ahli, recording 176 appearances, 43 goals and 21 assists. Bala joined in 2021 and has 138 games, 29 goals and 34 assists.

First-team chances at Flamengo were scarce. César played four times between 2019 and 2020 before a loan to Fortaleza, where his form drew Shabab Al-Ahli’s attention. Bala featured three times in 2020, then moved to Ferroviária for one season before heading to the Arab world.
