Zadok Yohanna showed his emotions after signing a long-term Premier League contract with Albion through 2031 on joining from AIK.
After the paperwork he appeared briefly overcome as his representatives hugged him. Yohanna said: “I’m really happy, that’s why, because I know where I came from. I want to make my family proud, which I did. They are really happy, so happy.”
Albion have paid £21.5 million for the winger, and he had also attracted interest from Newcastle and Chelsea. The Nigerian turns 19 this month.
He was shown around the Lancing training base by technical director Mike Cave, who plays a lead role in signings.
It is not yet clear what plans head coach Fabian Hurzeler will have for Yohanna next season, although the fee is sizeable by Albion standards.
In his one season in Sweden he often cut in from the right to shoot with his left, a profile similar to Amario Cozier-Duberry, who excelled on loan at Bolton last season and whom Albion want to tie to a longer-term deal.
