Davide Zappacosta has explained joining Atalanta ahead of long-term suitors Fiorentina.
Fiorentina were in pole position to secure the services of the Chelsea defender, but Atalanta managed to complete his signing by offering €10m to the Blues.
“I don't think Fiorentina are upset with me, these things happen many times in football," Zappacosta told L'Eco di Bergamo.
“Fiorentina have a great team, they have a new coach and are very well organised.
“However, there are a few reasons behind my choice to join Atalanta. First of all, I am curious to work under Gasperini. I think I can further develop with him.
“Also, I spoke to Atalanta President in May after Genoa-Atalanta and he told me he'd have liked to take me back to Bergamo had he had a chance. In June, I told my agent that Atalanta was my priority. My target is to help the team now."
