Zian Flemming, Hannibal Mejbri and Maxime Esteve were among the players to react as Jaidon Anthony departed Burnley for Brentford.

Burnley knew that relegation from the Premier League meant that key players would be on the move in the summer transfer window.

The financial implications of dropping out of the top flight are well-known, and the easiest way to plug that gap is through player sales, whilst those funds will help expected new boss Nicky Hayen bring in his own signings.

One player who the Clarets were always going to struggle to keep as a Championship club was Jaidon Anthony, and, sadly for Burnley, that has proven to be the case, as he joins Brentford in a move that could be worth up to £17m.

Burnley players react to emotional Jaidon Anthony message after Brentford transfer

The winger was one of very few positives for the Clarets in the Premier League, as he scored eight goals in 37 games, which came on the back of playing a key role as Scott Parker’s side won promotion in 2024/25.

It wasn’t just the goals, as Anthony was a constant threat with his pace and direct style, which made him a fans favourite at Turf Moor.

Therefore, he was always going to attract attention following relegation, and it’s Brentford who have won the race for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Hey Clarets, the time has now come for me to say goodbye, but before that I wanted to thank every player and staff member I’ve had the pleasure of working with, I will miss you all! (especially Josh and Marcus), and of course you fans, to every one that ever sang my name, it means more than you know!

All the best Clarets and see you soon.”

That brought plenty of responses from teammates, with Maxime Esteve one of those to respond, with the defender replying with ‘all the best bro’, along with a love heart emoji.

There were similar responses from Hannibal Mejbri; ‘mon frere it was a pleasure being you with you’, and Zian Flemming made reference to their relationship on the pitch as he described Anthony as ‘my prime supplier’.

Burnley must look to repeat Jaidon Anthony transfer success

Firstly, the reaction to Anthony’s message suggests that he was very popular in the dressing room, and he is certainly going to be missed on the pitch.

As outlined above, though, an exit was inevitable after his performances last season, and it was a case of getting the best fee possible for Burnley. Some will argue that they could’ve held out for more, but it’s still a decent sum.

Now, it’s about trying to replace the former Bournemouth man, and the money from his sale should help fund a few deals.

Obviously, Hayen is going to have a big say in recruitment, but you would imagine Burnley will be in the market for a quick winger, and someone who has a similar profile to Anthony.

So, it will be interesting to see how it plays out, and what business they do get done, as fans will want to see some progress made on that front, as the countdown begins to their Championship opener at home to West Ham on August 16.
