Zinedine Zidane has heaped praise on Jeremy Jacquet as the defender continued his superb start with the France national side.
Jacquet was a standout as France drew 1-1 with Italy in the UEFA Nations League on Friday evening, the latest impressive performance from the 21-year-old.
TheLiverpool defender was called up to the senior squad for the first time during this break, and has taken his chance with Les Bleus.
Against Italy, Jaquet misplaced just one pass at the Stade de France and was singled out for praise by the new head coach at full-time. Zidane has been pleased with what he has seen from the youngster.
“Very good. Very, very good,”Zidane said when asked about Jacquet’s performance against Italy.
“Brave. He wasn’t afraid to come out a long way. Very good in the duels. He was, once again, very good. I said it four times.”
The French media have also showered Jacquet with praise of his performances so far, with L'Equipe describing his latest showing against Italy as 'dazzling'.
It follows an assured adaptation to thePremier League, since signing for Liverpool from Rennes in the summer.
Jacquet admitted his first France camp has gone 'better' than he could have imagined, having put his hand up for a more regular role.
“Better than I imagined. To train with all these great players, it’s just a great pleasure. I’m just trying to make the most of every moment.”
Chelsea defender Maxence Lacroix partnered Jacquet during his debut against Belgium earlier this week and is another who has been impressed by his level.
"I think he's a very good player, just as you all think. I'm impressed by what he delivers, by his maturity and what he shows every day," Lacroix told reporters on Friday.
"For him to deliver what he does at such an age is wonderful for our national team and wonderful for us because he's with us. I'm really so happy for him, truly."
