A gutsy win, snatched in the dying moments. Inter emerged victorious at the Bentegodi, beating Hellas Verona 2-1 on matchday 10 in Serie A thanks to a Frese own goal in the 93rd minute. In a tightly contested match, Zielinski opened the scoring with a stunning volley in the first half, only for Giovane to bring Verona back on level terms. Then, just when the game seemed set for a draw, the decisive moment arrived: a whipped cross, a deflection and ecstasy at the final whistle. Three crucial points, earned through cohesion, calmness and relentless belief.
In getting the better of Verona, Inter continued their excellent start to the season. The Nerazzurri have now recorded nine victories in their last ten competitive matches, a run built on both efficiency and quality. Frese’s decisive own goal, coming after 92 minutes and 59 seconds, is the latest own goal to have ever gone in Inter's favour in Serie A, a testament to a team that stays composed until the very last second.
Inter are the team to have benefitted from the most own goals in 2025 (four). Even more notably, the Nerazzurri are the only side to have had more than ten different scorers in the first ten league matchdays (eleven in total). These figures highlight the strength of the squad, the collective nature of their play and the ability of everyone to make a decisive impact.
Once again, a quiet yet indispensable figure. Zielinski's goal to open the scoring came from one of his corners, underlining the precision and tactical intelligence of Inter’s No. 20. Hakan Calhanoglu is enjoying an excellent run of form: he has now recorded at least one goal involvement in three consecutive Serie A matches for the first time since December 2024.
The Turkish playmaker is also one of only three midfielders - alongside Zielinski and Barella - to have scored and provided at least one assist in each of the last nine seasons in the Italian top flight. With six goal involvements (five goals and one assist) in his first eight appearances of the season in one of Europe's top five leagues, Calhanoglu is experiencing the best start to a campaign in his career.
In 2025, only Nico Paz is the only midfielder to have outscored him in Serie A. And there’s more: Hakan is the only central midfielder to have directly contributed to at least six goals away from home (three goals and three assists) in 2025. A leader defined by his technique, consistency and presence in every area of the pitch.
Piotr Zielinski has found the net again. Indeed, he opened the scoring in Verona with a fantastic right-footed volley in the 16th minute from a corner taken by Calhanoglu. The goal arrived 371 days after his last Serie A strike, with the Pole also netting for the first time away from home since 7 April 2024 (against Monza).
With this finish, Zielinski joins an exclusive group: he is one of only three players to have scored in each of the last eleven Serie A seasons (since 2015/16), alongside Dybala and Pellegrini. A statistic that speaks to his consistency, professionalism and quality, traits that the midfielder is now displaying effortlessly in an Inter shirt.
