Zimbabwe vs South Africa LIVE!
South Africa will be desperate to bounce back as they face Zimbabwe in World Cup qualifying this evening. Bafana Bafana had looked on course to automatically qualify for the tournament for the first time since hosting in 2010, only to have recently seen their 2-0 win over Lesotho back in March forfeited as a punishment for fielding an ineligible player in the suspended Teboho Mokoena.
The loss of three points and three goals dropped them down to second place in Group C behind Benin, who sit top by virtue of a now superior goal difference. It has left the group wide open heading into the last two rounds of fixtures, with Nigeria positioned three points further back in third with renewed hope after a 1-1 draw in Bloemfontein last month and Rwanda and Lesotho also still able to qualify.
Only Zimbabwe have been officially eliminated from World Cup finals contention, sitting bottom and still winless after eight games. Michael Nees’ side were edged out by both Rwanda and Benin in September and goals remain a real problem, having scored only five during the current campaign.
