According to L'Équipe, Zinédine Zidane has left out Aurélien Tchouaméni from his first France squad, starting his reign without the Real Madrid midfielder.

With Real, the 26-year-old has featured in three matches, playing 11 minutes against Inter then 21 against Rayo Vallecano, before starting against Elche on Tuesday and being substituted in the 86th minute.

Zidane noted the midfielder had been out for nearly two months and had only 180 minutes since returning, so it was better for his recovery to stay in Madrid and continue preparing.

Tchouaméni, France’s vice-captain under Didier Deschamps, played the full semi-final of the last World Cup against Spain.

He will have to wait until November to rejoin the national team.
