Mbappé has left Nike after 19 years to spearhead On’s move into football, becoming the Swiss brand’s flagship athlete. The Real Madrid and France captain switches in a market long dominated by Nike, Adidas and Puma.
Mbappé will help develop and test boots and apparel, with financial terms and duration undisclosed. On plans to launch its first football boots in 2027, then expand into kit, trainers and lifestyle products, according to the Financial Times, and its shares rose between 5% and 6% before Wall Street opened.
Announcing the deal on social media, Mbappé said it fulfils a dream he has pursued since childhood and that he is joining innovators who share his aims. He appeared in lifestyle clothing from his new technical partner.
On was founded in Zürich in 2010, listed in New York in 2021, and in 2024 reported 2.320 billion Swiss francs in sales and 242 million in profit. The company built its rise on running footwear and a premium, innovation-led positioning.
On will use its LightSpray technology to create ultra-light boots by spraying material onto the upper with a robotic arm, reducing components. Thierry Henry has been appointed director of football to shape strategy, product and player relations, and Barcelona’s Swiss player Sydney Schertenleib will contribute to the women’s game.
