Zinédine Zidane explains celebration of Michael Olise goal | OneFootball

Michael Olise’s late goal for France was clearly a cathartic moment for Zinédine Zidane. It had been a tightly fought game in Brussels, and going into the dying stages, the UEFA Nations League encounter was still tied at 0-0, despite Les Bleus having gone close on several occasions, notably striking the bar and the post.

Zidane was looking to continue his winning start as France manager. On Friday, it was his side who beat Turkiye 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Kylian Mbappé.

Against Belgium, France were reliant on a moment of brilliance from Olise, who used his shoulder to control the ball before then driving to the edge of the Belgium box unopposed and curling in Senne Lammens’ far corner.

Zidane celebrated it by running down the touchline and kicking (with a lot of force) a ball that was placed on a cone. The former Real Madrid manager was asked about his celebration post-match: “I don’t even know what I did (laughs). I followed his run from when he started dribbling. It was an incredible action, and then I saw the ball. Voilà! It was maybe a bit ridiculous, but there you go.”
